It also increases the range of options for law graduates who wish to undertake a postgraduate qualification. Course objectivesThe Graduate Diploma in Law (Intellectual Property) aims to provide further education in the legal profession to students who want to upgrade their knowledge and keep abreast of local and international developments of laws relating to the protection of intellectual property rights. It may also contribute to continuing legal education and professional development and is for students who wish to gain accreditation as a trade mark attorney and credit for units recognised by the Academy of the Institute of Patent Attorneys. The course, in terms of course structure, teaching methods, class times and venues, is designed with the interests of part-time students particularly in mind. Course structureThis course comprises eight coursework units, each worth six points. Candidates may be given credit for up to four units for prior learning. Candidates who do not have an undergraduate law degree, or candidates who have a law degree from a non-Australian jurisdiction, must complete LAW7212 (Australian legal system). Candidates who are not granted credit must complete eight units. Course requirementsStudents must choose at least three units in the intellectual property specialisation, although candidates who are admitted without advanced standing must complete a minimum of five units from this area of specialisation.
