Synopsis

Report writing. Human behaviour: nature of human behaviour, development, perception, consciousness and control, conditioning and learning, remembering and forgetting, emotions, motivation and stress, mental abilities, personality and its assessment, abnormal behaviour and the therapies.

Objectives

In this unit, students will develop understanding of:

  1. Introductory aspects of psychology - particularly how they pertain to communicating with patients.
Abilities in the areas of:
  1. Retrieving and interpreting drug information;
  2. Communicating in writing;
  3. Preparing and dispensing simple dose forms of medicines, including recording prescriptions, labelling the medicines and counselling patients' on how to best use them.
Appreciation of:
  1. The pharmacy of a number of given drugs and medicines.

Assessment

Written examination 65% (2 hours)
Written assignment (20%)
Practical examination (15%)

Contact hours

The unit will have 18 lectures over 12 weeks; 3 x 1hr whole group tutorials; 6 x 3hr practical sessions (including 1x 3hr assessment); weekly self-directed learning tasks Drugs in Profile'.
