Clayton Second semester 2007 (Day)
Nature of electrical signals, their measurement and display. Main components in electrical and electronic circuits. Semiconductors. Analog and digital circuits. Transient and steady state response of electrical circuits. AC theory, phasors, impedance and admittance. Principles of designing operational amplifiers. Controlled rectifier systems. Open- and closed-loop systems. Industrial rectifiers. Digital logic circuits. Application/design of transducers and actuators. Electronic measuring system. The physical phenomena utilized in transducers. Photo detectors and fibre optics. Analog to digital and digital to analog converters. Computer software in electronic circuit analysis and simulation.
To introduce the basics of electrical and electronic circuits.
Examinations (3 hours): 70%
Laboratory and assignment work: 30%. Students must achieve a mark of 45% in each component to achieve an overall pass grade
3 hours/week lectures and 3 hours/week laboratory and practice classes and 6 hours of private study per week
