This unit traces the development of Spanish from so-called vulgar Latin, the Latin most commonly spoken by everyday people in the Roman Empire. It also follows the development of modern-day Spanish with its various dialectical evolutions both in peninsular Spanish and in the Spanish spoken in the Americas.
