Synopsis
- Language: Advanced study, through literary and official texts, of the stylistics of contemporary Polish political, economic and cultural discourses. Advanced translation and theory of translation.
- Literature and society: Contemporary Polish drama, fiction and film in the context of (East) European postmodernism.
Objectives
On completion of the course, students
- will be able to distinguish different types of contemporary Polish cultural discourses (political, economic, artistic);
- be able to translate different discourse types into English;
- have a command of the major trends in Polish Modernism and
- an acquaintance with Polish post-war cinema.
Assessment
Language Test (1 hour): 30%
Written work (1000 words): 20%
Literature and society essay (2500 words): 50%
