The unit investigates the Christian understanding of the problem of evil - cosmic and personal - in the context of the interrelationship of God and humanity. It explores the self understanding of the Christian church in the light of the great schism of the eleventh century and the reforms of the sixteenth century.
Two short essays (1500 words each): 70%
Examination (1.5 hours): 30%
Third-year students will be expected to complete the assessment in greater depth than at second-year level.
