Synopsis

PHL1020 consists of a set of optional components, from which students must choose two. The components offered in any year will be drawn from the following list:

  1. Beginning Logic;
  2. Time, Self and Freedom;
  3. Greeks and the Good Life;
  4. Philosophy of Sex; and

Objectives

To extend and develop the capacity of students to argue critically about a range of philosophical issues either through informal discussion of moral and metaphysical problems or through more formal methods of logical analysis.

Assessment

Three short exercises (1250 words): 30%
Essay (1250 words): 30%
Examination: 40%

3 hours (2 x 1 hour lectures and 1 x 1 hour tutorial) per week
