Synopsis

PHL1010 consists of a set of optional components, from which students must choose two. The components offered in any year will be drawn from the following list:

  1. 'Life, Death and Morality';
  2. 'God, Freedom and Evil';
  3. 'Great Thinkers: Bold Ideas';
  4. 'Crime and Punishment'; and

Objectives

To introduce students to methods of philosophical argument and analysis through the discussion of a range of moral and metaphysical problems of contemporary relevance.

Assessment

Three short exercises (1250 words): 30%
Essay (1250 words): 30%
Examination: 40%

Contact hours

3 hours (2 x 1 hour lectures and 1 x 1 hour tutorial) per week
