Clayton Second semester 2007 (Day)
The unit is designed to provide an overview of the early music repertoire for study, listening and performance. It aims to foster an understanding of some of the issues and problems within the early music repertoire. It provides the foundation for an early music ensemble which functions simultaneously as a course for credit, a performance laboratory for a musicology curriculum and an extracurricular activity.
On successful completion of this unit, students should be able to direct a small ensemble from score to performance and have absorbed appropriate participatory ensemble behaviour for both rehearsal and performance environments. Additionally, students should be able to reflect upon performance practice problems and articulate solutions in written form.
Exercise (1000 words): 20%
Essay (1500 words): 30%
Practical examination (1 hour): 10%
Ensemble performance (1 hour): 40%
2 hours (1 x 1 hour lecture and 1 x 1 hour tutorial) per week
