Synopsis

This unit will explore the issues surrounding the procurement and usage of technology within the retail insustry. Topics include retail management systems as a strategic tool, store systems technologies, supply chain, RFID, customer relationship management and future international technological developments for retailing.

Objectives

The learning objectives of this unit are to:

• define the purposes of technology in relation to retailing;
• evaluate the impact of technology on retail management and practices;
• describe the differences between the various characteristics of technology used within the retail sector;
• analyse the return on investment for technology procurement within retail;
• critically analyse the methods contemporary management use in procuring and implementing technology.
