Synopsis

Issues included in this unit are theories and concepts concerning workplace equity and discrimination; forms of workplace discrimination; legal framework within which workplace discrimination is dealt with; workplace policies and procedures concerning equity and discrimination; examination of relevant case studies and contemporary decisions of industrial and anti-discrimination tribunals.

Objectives

The learning goals associated with this unit are to:

• evaluate the legal, ethical, and social underpinnings of the concept of equity
• evlauate the legal, ethical, and professional issues surrounding the occurence of discrimination at the workplace
• develop policy-making skills to promote equity and to prevent discimination at the workplace
• analyse case study scenarios foducsing on eliminating and preventing discrimination at the workplace.

Assessment

Individual assignment (2000 words): 20%
Individual assignment (3000 words): 30%
Individual assignment (4500 words): 50%

Contact hours

Two 1-hour lectures and one 1-hour tutorial per week

Prerequisites

MGX9220, BTX9070 and must have passed four 9000-level units
