Synopsis

Introduction to the major differences between domestic and IHRM; cultural, social and ethical issues for IHRM; IHRM planning, policies and procedures; international relations and evaluation of host country environments; recruitment and selection; remuneration; training and compensating expatriates; maintaining the employment relationship within international operations.

Objectives

The learning objectives of this unit are to:

• provide a sound knowledge about the effective and efficient management of human resources in international organisations. It covers the major issues, challenges and areas of responsibility associated with the management of an international organisation?s human resources;
• explore the environment and context of IHRM;
• examine the organisational context for IHRM;
• identifie IHRM strategies, initiatives and activities;
• evaluates further and future issues that are of relevance and significance to IHRM.

Assessment

on-campus: Written minor assignment (2000 words) 20%; Major assignment (3000 words) 30%; Tutorial participation 10%; Examination (2 hours) 40%
Off-campus: Two assignments 60%
Examination (2 hours) 40%
