Synopsis

Context of recruitment, selection and placement processes in human resource consulting. Professional ethics and compliance with legal requirements. Appropriate methods for describing the job, attracting the right person, assessing applicants, shortlisting and selection. Issues and current practice and trends in recruitment and selection.

Objectives

The learning objectives of this unit are to:

• critically analyse the role and function of recruitment and selection in Human Resource Management in Australia and identify current practice and global trends in the use of recruitment and selection methods;
• compare current practices in recruitment and selection with contemporary theories and identify where differences exist and make recommendations to change current practices;
• examine the ethical and legal requirements of the Recruitment process and illustrate how these contribute to the growth of the profession;
• analyse the role of internal and external consultants and identify how the relationship between the candidate and the employer is affected;
• critically analyse the psychological and sociological factors that affect individuals entering, remaining and exiting the workforce.

Assessment

On-campus and off-campus: Individual assignment (2000 words): 20%
Individual assignment (3000 words): 30%
Examination (3 hours): 50%
