Synopsis

An introduction to the agribusiness system as a whole and an understanding of the linkages between the components of the system. Statistical description of the agribusiness sector; the organisation of the agribusiness channel; power relationships in the channel and an in-depth look at the production, processing and marketing of a selection of food and fibre products.

Objectives

The learning objectives of this unit are to:

• develop an in-depth knowledge of the linkages between the components of the agribusiness system;
• gain insight into the organisation of the agribusiness channel;
• acquire knowledge of the relationships in the channel;
• apply a descriptive statstical analysis to the agribuisness sector;
• apply tools and techniques to analyse the production, processing and marketing of a selection of food and fibre products.

Three assignments (2400 words): 24%
Management game: 10%
Short tests: 10%
Participation: 6%
Examination (3 hours): 50%
