Clayton First semester 2007 (Day)
This unit deals with the operation, performance and design of spark ignition and gas turbine aircraft engines. Initially the engines will be treated as simple thermodynamic systems. A more detailed investigation of engine components will follow. Component integration for each engine will be examined through investigations into performance and operation including design and off-design conditions for the gas turbine engine. Students will be required to undertake a significant individual project dealing with aspects of each engine.
Examination (3 hours ): 70%
Projects and laboratory work: 30%
22 lectures, 14 practice class hours and 6 laboratory hours
