Synopsis

The unit is designed to consolidate and develop comprehension skills in reading materials on current topics in the Korean press and understanding and discussing the issues and their social and cultural context.

Objectives

Upon successful completion of this unit students will be able to:

1. Read simple authentic texts from the Korean media.
2. Understand issues in contemporary Korea.
3. Use dictionaries for reading more efficiently.

Assessment

Examination (2 hours): 40%
Reading assignments (total 2500 words): 60%

Contact hours

4 hours (2 x 1 hour lectures and 2 x 1 hour tutorials) per week

KOR2040 or equivalent
