Synopsis

As for JRN2901.

Objectives

On successful completion of this unit students will have:

  1. Critical and analytical understanding of the key theories in international news reporting;
  2. Understanding of global journalism practices;
  3. Ability to examine issues facing international news reporting, with reference to particular regions;
  4. Understanding of the historical relationship between
Western media, in particular the Australian media, and Asian media;

Assessment

Comparative essay (1500 words): 30%
Media article (1000 words): 20%
Examination (2 hours): 50%

Contact hours

2 hours (one 1-hour lecture and one 1-hour tutorial) per week
