Clayton First semester 2007 (Day)
Using contemporary materials selected from the print media, students are introduced to a variety of specialist registers, including those of business, law, journalism, the environment and tourism. The students then participate in structured workshops where appropriate terminology and structures are used within the process of translation. Model translations are developed and oral presentations are given.
Upon successful completion of this unit students will be able to:
Translations (3 x 250 words): 30%
Essay in Indonesian (1000 words) 30%
Spoken word presentations: 30 minutes 40%
Additional comment Assessment is in Indonesian except for translations which are in both directions (Indonesian to English and English to Indonesian). Indonesian word count and spoken presentation represent English word count equivalent of 4500 words.
