Motivation and the need for data mining, various aspects at each step of the process involved in solving a data mining problem, basic principles of different data mining methods, the nature of different data mining operations, the relationship between data mining methods and operations, and the connection between data mining operations and application areas, using case studies to bridge the connection between hands-on experience and real-world applications, and expose the students to current major research issues in solving data mining problems.

Students who meet the entry requirements of Master of Business Systems, Master of Information Technology and Master of Multimedia Computing can take this unit.
