6 points, SCA Band 1, 0.125 EFTSL

Undergraduate Faculty of Arts

Leader: Patrick Durel

Clayton Second semester 2007 (Day)

This unit builds upon the skills developed in FRN2090, with a particular focus on specific expository techniques: "synthese" and "expose". Students will continue to familiarise themselves with issues in contemporary France, with emphasis on documents representative of the discourses of the social sciences. They will further develop their critical awareness of these issues. The subject constitutes an excellent preparation for the DALF exam (B3, B4.)

At the conclusion of this unit, students should be able to demonstrate their mastery of advanced analytical, expository and argumentative skills in the context of

  1. writing a synthesis of several documents; and
  2. presenting an expose on a given topic after 60mins of preparation.

Students are also expected to reinforce and demonstrate their knowledge and understanding of the main socio-cultural issues in France today.

Two collaborative written assignments (1800 words): 10%
One class test (600 words): 20%
Oral participation and presentations: 15%
Final written exam (600 words): 25%
Final oral exam (expose): 30%
