Synopsis

A major research paper on a topic appropriate to environment and sustainability completed under the supervision of a staff member. This research will enable students to consolidate the theoretical knowledge and analytical skills acquired in coursework components in a research context. It requires independent learning and research and offers an alternative option to students wishing to pursue a more academically oriented piece of research instead of the environmental internship ENV533E

Objectives

On successful completion of this unit students will have:

  1. gained skills in research project formulation and methodology important to the area of environment and sustainability
  2. consolidated the knowledge and skills gained in the coursework components of the course
  3. acquired the capacity to complete and report on a research project in a professional manner.

Assessment

Research paper (9000 - 12,000 words ) : 100%

Contact hours

2 x 2 hour seminars for the first 2 weeks of semester and then as negotiated between student and supervisor

Prerequisites

ENV4020, ENV4030, ENV4040 and an appropriate research methods unit
