Synopsis

This unit explores further the ideas of mentoring and coaching that were introduced in EDF6851. The unit will involve students in exploring case studies of mentoring programs through sharing their experiences and further develop and implement an action plan in mentoring at the workplace. Students will explore the notion of implementing ongoing development of organizational capacity through mentoring and coaching programs and develop further their repertoire of skills in terms of mentoring and coaching

Objectives

Students will achieve articulation of their skills and identify the skills required for successful implementation of the action plan; improved understanding of mentoring and coaching over a variety of contexts based on the shared experiences of participants; an understanding of review and evaluation methodology that can be used to review and evaluate current workplace action plans; identify key components essential for the development of on-going action plans; development of presentation skills.

Assessment

Refinement of portfolio of individual professional capability (1400 words): 17%
Submission of action plan presentation incorporating peer feedback (1400 words): 17%
Review and evaluate current workplace action plan (4000 words): 50%
Submission of recommendations based on planning for the development of an on-going action plan (1200 words): 16%

Contact hours

29hrs coursework (12hrs intensively) and up to 270 hrs independent study throughout semester
