Contemporary issues and theoretical developments in policy and governance in a variety of sectors. The politico-economic context of policy and management in relation to educational and other related changes at the global, national and state levels, and illustrated at the micro level where students have direct experience.
It is anticipated that after successfully completing the unit students will have an understanding of the influences on policy and governance, both in a theoretical and ideological sense, including the issues, debates and ideas that currently dominate thinking on public policy and governance; an understanding of the nature of policy, how it is produced, how it can be researched both in stages of preparation and evaluation, what is involved in writing policy, and issues of policy resourcing, and an appreciation for the ways in which current established patterns of policy and governance are being reconfigured as a consequence of global changes.
