Synopsis

This unit will provide the student with the opportunity to critically appraise appropriate ecological assessment and intervention procedures for specific behavioural areas in children and adults. The unit will address current issues raised by the research literature and highlight major advantages and disadvantages of each approach.

Objectives

By completing the assignments and participating in class activities students will:

  1. Understand the basic principles of conducting school based functional behavioural assessments and eco-behavioural assessment;
  2. Be able to explain and apply behavioural and learning theories to teaching situations;
  3. Be aware of a range of strategies that can be employed to work with students who frequently display inappropriate behaviours;
  4. Be able to respond more positively and sensitively to student diversity; and
  5. Be aware of recent trends in working with students with a range of behavioural issues

Assessment

Essay (4000 words): 50%
Class presentation (4000 words): 50%

Prerequisites

EDF6601, except by permission of the Lecturer in charge, students will be required to have completed.
