The lectures, on-line discussion, and field placements develop a range of professional skills and acquaint students with issues of professional ethics and practice in counselling.
The broad aims of this unit are for you to develop an understanding of the ethical, legal and moral obligations of professional counsellors; to demonstrate comprehension of the codes of ethics for counsellors for relevant regions of practice; to demonstrate implementation of ethical principles in field practice; to develop and make evident appropriate decision-making processes regarding ethical dilemmas in counselling; and to determine the limits of your professional competency and be ready to make appropriate specialist referrals.
Essay on ethical issues in counselling practice (3000 words): 30%
Written case reports (3000 words): 30%
Supervisor Evaluations (equivalent 2000 words): 40% (comprising 30% Field supervisor
10% University supervisor)
