Synopsis

This unit builds on the concepts introduced in EDF5492 Methods and Practice of Teaching Accounting A. The major focus of this unit will be to further develop strategies and pedagogy appropriate for teaching Accounting at the secondary level and encouraging financial literacy.

Objectives

Upon successful completion of this unit, students should be able to demonstrate sound knowledge of relevant discipline areas associated with the teaching and learning of Accounting & financial literacy; know and apply materials, teaching methods and programs associated with the teaching and learning of Accounting; motivate and engage students in their learning of Accounting; set clear, challenging and achievable goals for students in their learning of Accounting; use a range of teaching styles, strategies and technologies appropriate to best practice teaching and learning of Accounting; use assessment tasks that are purposeful and relevant to the teaching and learning Accounting program and the learning needs of students; use a variety of assessment and reporting methods to regularly monitor learning.

Assessment

Unit of work (Approx 2000 words): 50%, Teaching Portfolio (Approx 1200 words): 30%, Class activities (Approx 800 words): 20%
Teaching practice which forms a major part of the assessment of EDF5492 Methods and Practice of Teaching Accounting A and EDF5493 Methods and Practice of Teaching Accounting B and students must complete at least 45 days teaching practice (50 for double degree students) and gain a rating of satisfactory for the teaching practice.
