Clayton Second semester 2007 (Day)
Gippsland Second semester 2007 (Off-campus)
This unit builds on the concepts and knowledge introduced in EDF 5486. Studies will further approaches to teaching and learning a language other than English as proposed by current curriculum documents for Years 7 to 12 by introducing students to ways of developing appropriate units of work and suitable assessment tasks.
To introduce teacher trainees in second/foreign languages to basic theoretical principles which underpin current pedagogy in this field; enable future teachers of second/ foreign languages to work with current curriculum documents; provide an opportunity for future teachers of second/foreign languages to incorporate information and communication technologies into their course design; enable teacher trainees in second/foreign languages to plan for and implement lessons in their language which engage learners and develop their cognitive, creative and linguistic skills; introduce teacher trainees in second/foreign languages to aspects of assessment of language knowledge, skills and content.
Evaluation of commercial materials for relevant languages: 20%; Development of a unit of work for a Year 11 or 12 class including appropriate assessment tasks as per the study design: 30%; Successful completion of practicum: 50%
