Synopsis

This unit builds on the concepts introduced in EDF5484 - Physical Education A. It provides a continuing intellectual, theoretical and practical grounding of secondary physical education enabling students to become critically reflective and informed professionals. Students will study the pedagogies of physical education and examine the complementary partnerships that exist between school physical education and school/community sport. This unit will explore the complex interrelationships between school physical education, physical activity, fitness and the development of healthy lifestyles.

Objectives

Upon successful completion of this unit students should be able to: develop and plan several units of work in a VCE PE program; elucidate meanings/identities of physical education teachers; highlight, discuss and incorporate various assessment practices; acquire an understanding of students' motivations towards physical education; develop an insight into the importance of professional development in a changing society; discuss relevant contemporary issues facing physical education; prepare an online version of their curriculum vitae and resume and undertake the process of becoming a registered teacher.

Assessment

Assignment 1 (1600 words each): 40% Assignment 2 (2400 words each): 60%; plus 80% attendance at on-campus workshops (day students only) and satisfactory completion of practicum

Off Campus Attendance Requirements

Clayton students undertake unit by off-campus mode only (Gippsland)
