Synopsis

This unit builds on the concepts introduced in EDF5452. This unit considers the role and function of school music in a wide range of educational settings and addresses such current issues as music advocacy, school music performances, performance anxiety, and so forth.

Objectives

The broad aims of this unit are to become familiar with school music content appropriate for upper secondary schools, to develop an understanding of a range of music pedagogies that are used in school music departments; to collaborate with colleagues in the development and presentation of an original work of music theatre.

Assessment

Reflection on teaching: 50%, Project 50%
Student participation in the unit is vital either on-campus or via the on-line forum
Students must complete at least 45 days teaching practice (50 for double degree students) and gain a rating of satisfactory for the teaching practice.
