This unit explores the ways in which special education is shaped by policy and modes of delivery in the international context. The focus is on ways education is affected by local, regional and global trends. This unit will be evaluative in that students will analyse policies from their respective countries and identify the different policies which impact upon educational practice in light of international perspectives in special education
Upon successful completion of this unit, students should be aware of international education and cultural policies for diverse populations; be informed of the need for intercultural education for the promotion of equity; be aware of the implications of policy and practice in relation to curriculum access; be familiar with cultural issues in relation to curriculum development; be aware of cultural issues and policy implications for families, teachers and school communities whose students have diverse needs.

Seminar presentation (2000 words): 50%
