This unit provides students in both undergraduate and postgraduate programs the opportunity to engage in the theoretical underpinnings of curriculum developments in physical education. Historical, social, participatory and contemporary discourses and their influence on curriculum development will be examined, via readings, online discussions and face-to-face seminars. The implications of recent state and national curriculum development will be undertaken through reviews of these documents (eg CSFII, VELS) and through recent research and current practices in the field.
Upon successful completion of this unit students will have developed knowledge and understanding of current national and state frameworks for Physical Education; recent and relevant research in the field of Physical Education curriculum; the current practices of a specific area within the Physical Education curriculum and current practices and their relationship with the new curriculum frameworks.
