Synopsis

Individual coursework in the technical and conceptual areas chosen by the student. Students interpret originally and investigate independently a personal theme using one or a combination of the materials and processes introduced in previous studio art electives. Students develop a folio of preliminary material, such as working and finished drawings, to accompany the finished work. The critical analysis of art education theory and practice.

Objectives

The learning objectives of this unit are to successfully explore, develop and complete a major artwork that shows development of personal and thematic concepts relevant to choice of media; to be innovative and experimental with personal and thematic concepts; to develop skills in a range of media introduced throughout the semester; to develop art appreciation skills relevant to art practice and the teaching of art in schools; to develop familiarity with a range of literature on artists, art techniques, processes and trends in contemporary art; to document processes involved in the development of visual ideas through the use of drawing, photocopying, digital art, and journal entries.

Practical Folio (3200 words equivalent): 80%
Class presentation (800 words equivalent): 20%
