Synopsis

This unit is designed to demonstrate how integral research is for an educator, who as a professional is understood to be engaging with the research of others and conducting her/his own research. Students will also explore who research informs policy and in turn how policy impacts upon places of educative experiences (camps, community centres, schools). The unit will provide a foundation for those wishing to undertake more formalised research.

Objectives

As a result of studying this unit, students are expected to:

  1. be aware of the how policy has impacted upon a specific educative setting.
  2. Explore a range of qualitative and quantitative methodologies
  3. Complete a research proposal to establish a framework for a short research project.
  4. Conduct a formal short research project for the benefit of a specific educative setting.

Assessment

A Minor Assessment equivalent to 1000 words (25%)
A Major Research Assignment equivalent to 3000 words (75%).
