Synopsis

This unit has been designed for students who wish to experience and gain an understanding of some of Australia's unique natural environments. The educational setting for this unit will be on fieldtrips in outdoor locations. Topics will include: Historical perspectives of the relationship between humans and nature; the contributions of experiential education to understanding the natural environment; nature and its influence on human behaviour; aesthetic responses to the natural world. Fieldwork costs to cover transport and accommodation in National Parks will apply.

Objectives

On completion of this unit, students should be able to understand the experiential and cultural relationship humans have had with the natural environment; identify how educational processes can contribute to a deeper understanding of outdoor experiences; demonstrate an awareness and understanding of aesthetic preferences the natural environment; explain the influence of nature experience on human behaviour.

Assessment

Report (500 words): 10%; Written Essay (1500 words): 40%
Assignment (2000 words): 50%
Satisfactory attendance and participation on field trips (6-8 days).
