Synopsis

This unit is designed to provide students with an opportunity to utilise new communication technologies. There are two modules (initially, based on hypertext and desktop video) in which students have the opportunity to complete practical tasks. In the first module, students will learn elements of hypertext, and write hypertextual stories against a background of hypertextual theory involving adult and school-age hypertexts. In module two, students will examine the role of desktop video in educational and other contexts, and will complete a practical task involving its use. This is a unit with both theoretical and practical components.

Objectives

Upon successful completion of this unit, students should be able to write a hypertext with pictures and words which is suitable for a primary school class; understand the pedagogical and organisational implications of school hypertext use; be able to use desktop video conferencing in an educational context; understand the educational possibilities and constraints of desktop video conferencing.
