Synopsis

Students develop technical and conceptual skills in a selection of digital-art programs and apply them to methods of production including digital prints, and mixed media artworks. Students develop drawing and design expertise along with strategies and activities for studio and classroom application.

Objectives

The broad aims of this unit are to develop an understanding of key concepts in digital art practice including electronic image creation, manipulation, editing, scanning, digital photography, resolution and translation requirements; to develop appropriate processes for and experiment with selected digital art software and peripheral devices; to develop design, composition, and drawing skills relevant to the electronic environment; to develop an understanding of the complexity and richness of various output options within the digital art framework; ranging from digital prints, and mixed media artworks; to gain an awareness of contemporary art practice and theory and a growing understanding of the role of digital art within studio practice, the school environment and society in general; to develop personal expression by investigation of a chosen theme and to develop skills in folio presentation and display; to document techniques and approaches that demonstrate a reflective and reflexive approach to learning in this unit; to develop aesthetic and critical awareness by reflecting and responding to artwork, as well as a growing understanding of relevant terminology.

Seminar paper (800 words): 20%
Folio (2000 word equivalent): 50%
Visual journal (1,200 word equivalent): 30%
