Malaysia Second semester 2007 (Day)
Signals via optical fibres: linear and non linear effects, attenuation and amplification, dispersion, polarisation, multiplexing techniques. Optical transmissions: direct and external modulation techniques, optical spectrum and effects of signal distortion. Optical receivers and optical amplified systems. Dispersion and loss compensation techniques. Optical systems: transmission techniques for Gbps data rates. DWDM optical fibre communications systems and networks.
Examination (3 hours): 70%
Laboratory and assignment work: 30%
