The economic impact of British rule in India since the early nineteenth century, with some broad references to other regions, where useful. Themes include the history of famine; caste, religion and economic development; modern and traditional entrepreneurship; economic exploitation; destruction of handicrafts; the impact of international capitalism; agricultural growth and economic diversification.
