Synopsis

An intensive study of the possibilities of creating graphic works using a diverse range of found images and materials. Through a series of set projects, slide lectures and discussion, students will work towards an understanding of how these materials can be successfully combined to make aesthetically unified images.

Objectives

On successful completion of this unit, students will:

  1. be able to articulate a concept through the juxtaposition and manipulation of found images and materials;
  2. possess a good working knowledge of a variety and range of materials, processes and techniques;
  3. have the ability to combine materials with discrimination, resourcefulness and imagination;
  4. have the ability to complete a self-initiated collage/assemblage project;
  5. have some understanding of the use of collage in twentieth century art.
