Synopsis

The internal mechanism of computers and how they are organised and programmed. Topics include basic machine arithmetic, microprogramming, caches, translation look-aside buffers, RISC machines, and pipelined and parallel organisation.

Examination (3 hours): 65%
laboratory work: 35%

Contact hours

Two 1-hour lectures per week and one 2-hour laboratory per fortnight

CSC1030 or CSE1303 or equivalent
