Synopsis

This unit aims to orientate the student to rural health research through an exploration of the nature of rural health research. The unit will assist students to interpret published research and enhance their appreciation of the ethical issues that health researchers face in rural settings. The delivery of the unit is via WebCT.

Objectives

Upon successful completion of this unit students will be expected to:

  1. Recognise and appreciate the importance of research to rural health care practice;
  2. Critically appraise research reports;
  3. Discuss the application of various research methods to their own practice;
  4. Identify a range of rural health care problems that could be investigated by research;
  5. Develop skills related to the design, implementation and evaluation of research proposals;
  6. Apply selected findings to health and health-related research to improve practice.
