Caulfield First semester 2007 (Day)
An introduction to Network Administration that covers scope, goals, philosophy and standards; challenges and common practice. Review of IT System Components includes network structures; technology (sockets, cables, etc.); protocols (TCP/IP, ATM, etc.); and network operating systems. The unit includes network system management, methods of network administration using SNMP and RMON, network fault diagnosis and recovery, network performance and tuning, administration of network services, network security and administration, analytical system administration, network simulation, network documentation, and the future of administration.
Research Assignment: 30%; Assessable Tutorial Exercises and Tests: 30%; Network Administration Project: 40%.
