Synopsis

This unit serves both as an expansion of undergraduate background knowledge and as a preparation for further studies and research. As such, the chosen topics of study will depend on the undergraduate material already covered by the student and will fall within broad areas of the cognitive sciences such as cognitive processes or applied aspects of cognitive science. The particular topics to be included will be determined in consultation with the unit co-ordinator.

Objectives

On the completion of this unit students should be able to:

  1. critically examine current research in at least one major field of Cognitive Science;
  2. demonstrate an understanding of advanced concepts within that field;
  3. draw together information from a variety of sources and provide this in a cohesive and logical fashion in verbal presenations;
  4. provide written reports that effectively communicate their own and others ersearch ideas.

Assessment

Two seminar presentations (equivalent to 1800 words each): 40%
Two essays (2700 words each): 60%

Undergraduate degree with Cognitive Science, Psychology or related major
