The unit will initially examine the concept of 'belief' or 'faith' in the constitution of meaning and then move into the field of representation as the episteme of modernity. The relation of belief to desire, non-knowledge and revelation will be studied on the basis of critical, fictional and artistic texts. Visual and literary artistic texts will be used as primary material to be analysed deconstructively through the theoretical models studied and critiqued.
