Clayton Second semester 2007 (Day)
Through the study of graded Chinese news articles and news broadcasts, this unit will introduce students to the language and issues of contemporary Chinese current affairs. Topics covered include politics, economics, human rights, the environment, international relations and current social issues. Students will also develop research and language skills tailored to the Chinese language Internet.
To familiarise students with the language and issues of contemporary Chinese current affairs, to develop analytical skills to facilitate the reading of a wide variety of Chinese language media related texts, to strengthen listening comprehension in relation to specialised media reports and to develop research skills tailored to the Chinese language Internet to enable confident independent use of this resource.
Examination 2 hours 45%;
Three translation / Internet based assignments 200 words each): 15%;
Two class tests 1 hour each 30%;
Class presentation (450 words): 10%
2 hour seminar + 1 hour computer lab
CHI3335 + interview
