Postgraduate Faculty of Information Technology

Offered

Clayton First semester 2007 (Day)
Clayton Second semester 2007 (Day)

Synopsis

This unit allows students to investigate a particular industry application of business systems. The investigation is done under supervision and provides a chance to examine an area not previously covered in other units or to build upon existing knowledge. Projects can include: design, development, prototyping and
testing of a significant piece of software, an in-depth exploration and report on a leading edge piece of information technology, a literature review, a single or multiple-case study of real-life business problems in industry. Project topics must be approved by the supervisor and project coordinator prior to enrolment.

Assessment

The type of assessment will depend upon the project type. Possible deliverables include: A working software prototype, its plan and supporting test, design and user documentation, an extensive report of the results of the investigation and/or an oral presentation. A written report as the sole deliverable for a 6 point project would be approximately 5000 words (excluding appendices) in length.

Contact hours

Students should expect to spend an average of 12 hours per week for 13 weeks on this unit. This workload is divided between meetings with the supervisor and self-initiated work.
