Clayton First semester 2007 (Day)
Number systems (decimal, binary, hexadecimal), computer data representation, hardware components of a computer - CPU, ALU, registers, memory, I/O devices, the fetch/execute cycle - the Little Man Computer, 80x86 architecture, memory addressing, assembly language programming, code generated by the assembler, interrupts - internal CPU, external, software, operating systems and their functions, use of the stack. (subject to approval).
Class test: 10%
Tutorial/Lab assignments: 30%
Final examination (3hrs): 60%,
3hrs lecture, 1hr tutorial, 2hrs of practicals for 6 weeks.
