The course aims to develop the knowledge and skills of medical practitioners working with patients with mental illness and offers practical training in the academic aspects of psychiatry. Course objectivesOn completion of the course graduates should: 1. be critical thinkers able to pursue lifelong learning and self directed professional development; 2. be educated about the specific attitudes, knowledge and skills needed to effectively work in the area of mental health; 3. be able to conduct research and evaluation in clinical practice; and 4. have a broad understanding of the cultural differences that exist in our community and their relationship to its individuals and mental illness. AssessmentContinuous assessment will be based on submission of assignments and critical essays related to the core and elective units being undertaken for the degree.
