Units indexed by faculty Master of Health Professional EducationCourse code: 3860 + Course abbreviation: MHPE + Total credit points required: 72 + 3 semesters full-time, 6 semesters part-time Study mode and course locationOff-campus (Clayton) Course descriptionThis course, offered by the Centre for Medical and Health Sciences Education, is designed for health professional educators wishing to study contemporary, evidence-based educational practices and to undertake high-quality educational research. Course objectivesThe course will: 1. support excellence in undergraduate and postgraduate course development in the health professions by developing educators who can implement curricular frameworks that are based on sound educational theory and research; 2. model and promote internationally recognised contemporary and innovative educational practices; 3. improve the learning experience of students in clinical environments by increasing the pool of teachers with advanced level skills; 4. increase scholarship in health professional education that encourages high quality research pursuits; 5. strengthen the teaching –research nexus in health professional education; 6. foster development of career pathways for clinicians wanting to focus on education; 7. prepare future educational leaders and policy makers in the health arena; and 8. promote a professional approach to the development and delivery of educational practice. Course structureThe course can be completed in one of three ways: i.) by completing core units and a further 48 credit points of elective coursework units ii.) by completing core units and a further 24 credit points of elective coursework units and a 24credit-point project iii.) by completing core units and a further 12 credit points of elective coursework units and a 36credit-point minor thesis.
