It aims to provide participants with assessment and management skills to enable them to plan, implement, coordinate and evaluate health care in conjunction with general practitioners. Course objectivesOn completion of this course students will be expected to be able to: 1. discuss the history, nature, role and uniqueness of general practice as a health care specialty; 2. analyse the roles of the general practice nurse, as they occur nationally and internationally, in comparison to other primary health care roles; 3. critically appraise the key management areas of general practice including marketing, patient contact, appointments, communication, care management, health records and finances; 4. apply the principles of preventive care and risk management to specific areas of clinical care in general practice; and 5. provide an advanced level of skilled health assessment, underpinned by an advanced knowledge of the pathophysiologic basis of disease processes.
